Hippo occultation__ 2014 September 27

Discussion:

The ellipse above is plotted at the maximum axis ratio as determined by lightcurve inversion data. With only one chord it is not possible to determine whether Ashley was north or south of the central line of the event. However, assuming the updated prediction was approximately correct the longer than expected chord of about 160km would suggest that the chord might lie close to the central portion of the asteroid. With no positive chords we cannot say where the actual path was, so the circle has been plotted on the predicted path.

The figure below shows the Limovie/Tangra light curve of the occultation.

Hippo occultation__ 2014 September 27 As Ashley used a very long integration period the time resolution is rather long and hence the long error bars in the Plot above. This makes the Ellipse size quite uncertain as well. It might have been better to use one step faster integration to improve the time resolution at the expense of fainter stars.
